I was appalled to see your financing of fossil fuel expansion increase by a huge 164% to $9.7 billion compared to 2022 data, despite making recent progress on ruling out direct finance for new fossil fuel projects. This goes against the trend of your UK high-street equivalents, and is worse than historic European top fossil fuel expansion financier, Barclays. This is unacceptable. By continuing to finance fossil fuel expansion - despite the clear warnings from the UN and the IEA - your actions are damaging the planet, endangering the public, and contradicting the expectations of your customers. That’s why I’m calling on you to take immediate action – as recommended by Make My Money Matter – including: 1. Stop directly financing fossil fuel expansion activity. 2. Put clients on notice that if they continue to expand, you won’t provide any further finance to them. 3. End relationships if clients do not stop fossil fuel expansion. Stopping financing fossil fuel expansion is critical for us to maintain a healthy environment for people and planet, and you have a critical role to play in this. Don’t bank on me staying quiet if you stay in this dangerous relationship.
